Aug 21, 2024The actual writing part 📝 ... My goal in writing was always to balance fact and emotion. Fact, the basis of the story and why it needs to be told; and emotion, the heart of the story - taking the viewer/listener/reader on that journey with you. My best advice is to listen intently. Listen as you interview, and listen again as you review ...

Aug 21, 2024Lately I've been thinking a lot about process—the writing process, I mean. Probably because I just (finally) filed a feature story draft to my editor after a weeklong international reporting trip followed by a month of listening to interview transcripts, organizing notes, stressing, reading research articles, outlining and finally, lastly (but I guess most importantly) writing.
  4. Just writing a 200 page document isn't that hard. Most people probably can do that in about 3 months or less. But if you can't treat writing the thesis as a full time job and only get to write 5-10 pages a week, it obviously takes a little longer. I was really chuffed about the positive response I got to my post on being a professional short-form nonfiction writer in the 21st century. 6. Choosing strong words, creating effective sentences and developing coherent paragraphs take place during what part of the writing process? Writing. ... When using the three-step writing process, how much of the available writing time should be set aside for the actual writing? 25 percent.
  7. Brainstorming. I love the borderline chaos of it. And just letting my brain run wild with it. That's the part I get lost in and makes me forget everything else. And I like how much planning a story is like putting a puzzle together. I used to love the actual writing part but ADHD has kind of ruined drafting for me.
  8. The most important part of the writing process is the joy you receive from writing. I like the actual outing word on paper phase if and when the mental planning phase can come to realization. It's 100% joy, 50% planning and 50% outing word on paper phase. The last great part is the finished product, which = 100%. 300% total!

The other part of a writer's process that's critical is how the actual words, sentences, paragraphs, scenes, and chapters get onto the page of the manuscript to complete the story. Whether the writer uses a laptop, an iPad, or old-fashioned pen and paper, each author has a practical writing method that works for them.

One of the biggest secrets to writing a good essay is the Boy Scouts' motto: 'be prepared'. Preparing for an essay - by conducting effective research - lays the foundations for a brilliant piece of writing, and it's every bit as important as the actual writing part.
